Favorite movie trailers

I like trailers. In fact, I like some trailers more than the movies they're advertising (and there are some trailers which are REALLY better than the movies). I would say that thanks to trailers I started another hobby - video-editing (one of my first experiences was, if I'm not mistaken, a fan-trailer for Evil Islands; unsurprisingly in fact, considering it's my favorite game). I don't have many finished works on the Internet (and most of them are hard to find), but there is one you can easily watch: Tales of Monkey Island game fan-trailer (the developers liked the trailer, and with my permission they've done their own variant based on mine). While uploading it on YouTube, thought, a glitch has appeared near the end of the video - the last 30 seconds of sound and video are desynchronized a bit. Considering how I like the harmony between visual stuff and audio, this bothers me a lot, although I still didn't fix this for some reason. But I digress. Here's the list of my favorite movie trailers.

2000 – Gladiator
To tell you the truth, this piece directed by Ridley Scott didn't really impress me. I liked Kingdom of Heaven, his next work, a lot better. Okay, I've seen only the Director's Cut DVD edition of Kingdom of Heaven, they say it's a lot better than the theatrical version (although I can't really make any comparison, I haven't seen the theatrical version). But still, I saw Gladiator also in Director's Cut. And, well... I'm not amazed or anything, can't say I liked it. But the trailer is very cool! I think it's mostly because of the music.

2001 – The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Well, what can I say... I had Tolkien's The Lord of the Ring lying on a shelf at home for a very long, long time, and until I saw the movie (and I haven't seen the trailer before seeing the movie itself) I didn't know what an awesome thing this book was. The result? Tolkien's book is my favorite book of all time (well, one of them, at the least), and Peter Jackson's movie adaptation is my favorite movie of all time (one of them, at the least; and yes, I consider both book and the movie to be one whole piece). Regarding the trailer, it's using music from Mal Gibson's Braveheart, and a piece called Gothic Power by X-Ray Dog.

2002 – The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Orchestral arrangement of Clint Mansell's Lux Aeterna (from Requiem for a Dream) is played during the second half of the trailer. And, let me tell you, this is one hell of an arrangement. It's one of the most epic and awesome things I've ever heard. And I'm listening to it ever since year 2002, and it never feels old. Out of all three The Lord of the Rings trailers, this is probably my favorite.

2003 – The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Wait, what did you expect? Haven't I told you already clear enough that I like The Lord of the Rings very much? As I do movie trailers? Without any ado whatsoever...

2004 – Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man and Batman are my favorite superheroes. And I don't read the comic books about these characters, because to understand what's going on you have to study all their 40-year long history (if not longer, I don't know). I'm limiting myself to more 'casual' stuff - movies, cartoons and games (not all of them; that's still pretty much). I like Spider-Man specifically because I consider him to be the most human out of all superheroes. He's not perfect, he makes mistakes (these two are actually the reason why Peter Parker is Spider-Man in the first place), and gets into a lot of troubles and needs to sacrifice things because he leads a double life. This trailers perfectly shows those aspects of Peter Parker's life. It also shows everything else. And I mean everything. This is more like a short retelling of the movie than a trailer. But heck, it's still pretty awesome!

2005 – Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith
I don't like to start talking about Star Wars. Because it leads to such heated arguments, that it's better to elude this topic as one would elude talking about religion and politics. Especially on the Internet. Not to mention that my own opinion about Star Wars is somewhat complicated. I will just say that my favorite movie of the Saga is Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. But I also like the third one. I would even say almost as much as I do like the fifth, if not exactly as much. It's hard to say. But still, whatever you think about the movie itself, the trailer to Revenge of the Sith is very cool. It's my word, my opinion, and therefore beyond contestation. And don't you anyone dare to tell me that I'm wrong and have to thing differently.

2006 – Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
What baffles me the most, when it comes to Pirates of the Caribbean, is when people start to... looking for historical inaccuracies. Why do you have to look for them? Who cares that when Port Royal wasn't flooded, English soldiers had a different uniform? Who cares that there weren't certain types of ships in this or that certain period? It's basically a pirate fantasy, who needs accuracy? Are you having fun watching the adventure? Good, then. Regarding the trailer, it's one of those cases when, after watching the trailer, you imagine yourself a storyline very different from the one you'll actually see in the movie. This, my friends, is the power of editing!

2007 – TMNT
I was a Turtles fan when I was a little boy. I even had a Donatello costume, which I wore whenever I could. Until I grew up. The trailer shown below has awaken my nostalgic feelings toward these mutants. Of course, there were other trailers after this one (not nearly good enough), and the movie itself... Well, I enjoyed it, and there are a lot of good or neat moments (not to mention that the animation quality is just awesome), but I was expecting something different... Nevertheless. We're talking about trailers here. And this trailer is very atmospheric. And, well, I like it.

2008 – The Dark Knight
There was a time when Batman fans thought that Heath Ledger wouldn't be able to act believably as Joker. And they argued, and argued. Until they've seen this trailer. It has shut everybody's mouth. But I, for instance, didn't think anything. Then I just saw the trailer and thought to myself: 'Joker is a total psycho, the trailer is awesome'. The thing I like the most about this trailer is how the music collocates with the video, everything is timed very well. Unfortunately, Heath Ledger died in 2008. Let's honor his memory.

2010 – Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
The year 2009, where is it?! Where is it, I ask?! Oh, well, I just don't remember any trailer for any 2009 movie. Maybe I just actually haven't seen any. So I will compensate it with TWO 2010 movie trailers. So, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. What did I like... First: the music by Prodigy. Then, the trailer is just so crazy that I couldn't help myself but watch the movie after seeing it (by the way, saw the movie, liked it).

2010 – Inception
What I like the most about Inception trailers is that none of them actually gives any kind of clear information about what's really going on. And though you imagine some stuff about storyline and everything else while watching the trailer, you realize how wrong you were while watching the movie itself. So, I present to you my favorite 2010 movie trailer of my favorite 2010 movie. When my sister saw it, she said: 'Now I understand why they make trailers. To make you want to watch the movie'. Well, duh. By the way, if you liked the music as much as I did, it's Zack Hemsey's Mind Heist written specifically for the trailer.
